The Visiting Researcher Program

The VINNOVA-Stanford Research Center of Innovation Journalism offers researchers in the field of innovation and innovation journalism an international research platform.  The main focus is on research issues relevant to innovation journalism, including how journalism reports on innovation, the interplay of journalism in the innovation ecosystem, how it facilitates the formation of shared language and public opinion on innovation, how news organizations innovate, how that innovation interacts with their journalistic role in innovation ecosystems, and the development of new technologies that support these activitiies.

The center offer individuals and organizations the opportunity to sponsor visiting researchers in the Center. Each visitor is normally expected to have a terminal degree (generally the Ph.D.) and have experience in conducting research under his or her own guidance.

The Center offers individuals or organizations the opportunity to sponsor visiting researcher slots. Each slot enables a researcher to spend twelve months at the Center.

The Innovation Journalism Fellowship Program

The innovation journalism fellowship program aims to co-develop the concept and community of innovation journalism among practitioners in a global arena. This involves:

  • Forming a collegial network of innovation journalists, for mutual benefit of the network members;
  • Identifying and developing best practices;
  • Shaping a common understanding of professional ethics and innovation journalism's role in society;
  • Understanding and developing the business of innovation journalism.

The Innovation Journalism Fellows help make this happen. Innovation Journalism Fellows should be entrepreneurial, curious, active, interested in expanding their knowledge in new directions and participate in community-building.

The Fellows spend part of the time at Stanford University and part of the time interacting with hosting newsrooms. Each Fellow arranges a session at the yearly IJ-X conference on Innovation Journalism at Stanford University.
